The wild life of man as a fisherman on the murderous seas of Norway

Fisherman Benny Bakke earns his living in some of the toughest conditions in the world. He hasn’t lost his sense of humor, however, regularly taking to Instagram to share his wild experiences with his 447,000 followers.

A man who goes by the Instagram username ‘fishherbenny’ is astonishing social media users, giving them a glimpse into life as a commercial fisherman on the treacherous seas of Norway.

He faces challenges like wild waves, getting beaten up (by being jolted into his cabin walls) while he sleeps, and creatures that (it seems) still bite even after being gutted. All this while catching tons of fish (in a post he says: “we caught 24 tons of fish in two weeks”).

There’s also ice, sleet, crabs, the stench of rotting fish and hard-to-identify “monsters” from the depths. On top of that, some of his posts have angered some people, who think Benny is disrespectful to fish, and wrote comments like “the way you play with dead animals is the way you should play with your dead mothers” (written in response to a video where Benny demonstrates how a dead fish can still bite through a coke can, creating a mini liquid explosion).

Other interesting videos (some call them disrespectful, some call them hilarious) include Benny putting a fish head on his and sitting in a plunge pool, Benny putting a fish head on his and showering with water. water and Benny putting a fish head on his and posing for a photo.

Other challenges he shares include getting slammed against walls while he sleeps, being unable to eat soup for dinner (too messy as it slides all around), doors constantly slamming in his face, going going to the bathroom being a struggle in bad weather and getting wet and cold every day.

There are, however, three good elements. He says you get the best sleep ever when the weather is nice and calm, the sunrises and sunsets are amazing, and “it’s always exciting to see the cool/weird fish we catch.”
