A major air, land and sea search is underway for a man who did not return home after visiting a popular Sunshine Coast beach.
- Police, SES and volunteers are searching for the 38-year-old man who disappeared on Wednesday
- The search began Thursday afternoon and is expanding from the ocean to include nearby scrubland
- Police say Mr Woods has a medical condition and his disappearance is irrelevant
Police said Luke Woods, 38, went to Mudjimba Beach at lunchtime on Wednesday.
His car and belongings were found on the sand near access point 132 yesterday afternoon, about 24 hours after he was last seen.
Police Inspector Jon Lewis said that was when the alarm went off.
He said relatives had searched the area but had not found Mr Woods, they had called the police for help.
Inspector Lewis said the search would now also cover more land.
“We’re looking at the terrain on both sides of the beach road – we need to cover it all.”
State Emergency Service (SES) crews, police and Surf Life Saving volunteers are searching the ocean and up to 600 yards north of where Mr Woods’ gear was found.
Police said he had a medical condition and his disappearance was irrelevant.
“It certainly adds to the concern that it might contribute to his well-being,” Inspector Lewis said.
Anyone with information has been asked to contact the police.
