ANNAPOLIS, MD — A week after the Maritime College Dinghy Sailors finished second in their conference championship, the War Memorial, it was the offshore team’s turn. The privateers traveled to the United States Naval Academy for the Kennedy Cup, the fall offshore championship event. Maritime finished eighth in the 10-team field, totaling 53 points in seven races on Saturday, November 5.

James Willis (Huntington, NY) skipped the Privateers’ Navy 44 at the regatta. He was joined in the crew by Ben Hosford (Fairport, NY), Wesley Pase (Shoreham, NY), John Donnelly (New Town, NY), Sean Fogarty (Brick, New Jersey), Carianna Sconzo (Rockaway Beach, NY), Cole Swensen (Port Jefferson, NY) and Alexander Wise (Houston, TX).

Maritime was one of three schools representing the Middle Atlantic Sailing Association, joining Merchant Marine and Navy. The Privateers also faced the top teams from each of the other four collegiate sailing conferences. In the end, Maritime collected 53 points in the seven-race series to place eighth in the team standings. The Privateers’ best result is a sixth-place finish in Race 6.

This marked the end of the fall boating season. Maritime will begin its spring schedule in early March.
