Man doused in gasoline, robbed after being lured to sell clothes and sneakers, cops say

An 18-year-old man who thought he was meeting a woman outside an Ocean County store to sell sneakers and clothes last week was instead doused in gasoline and robbed, authorities said.

The man then told police a woman contacted him on Snapchat to say she wanted to buy items he was selling, Manchester Police said in a statement.

When the man arrived at Dollar General on Route 37 in Manchester on Thursday, a woman poured a water bottle filled with petrol over him, held a butane torch close to him and ordered him to return his belongings , police said.

The man handed over the clothes, sneakers, his cell phone and $300 in cash before the woman fled west on Route 37.

After investigation, police arrested Eboni Hester, 27, from Manchester. She was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, theft and weapons offences. Information about Hester’s attorney was not immediately available.

Manchester Police are reminding the public that a ‘secure interchange area’ is available at the township compound. Residents can use the space to conduct transactions initiated online. It’s also a place where parents who share custody of children can meet for pick-ups and drop-offs.

Located in the main visitor parking lot on the northeast side of the civic complex on Colonial Drive, it is well lit and under continuous video surveillance, police said.
